Ruling and Q&A Changes for Choice-Related Abilities

In order to be consistent with the comprehensive rules, we have updated the rulings for choice-related abilities and their associated Q&A.

Effective Date

September 10, 2024

*This will apply to all tournament levels.

Example #1

Feena, Dynamite Daredevil

Before

Q: If there are no selectable enemy followers that cost 1 play point on the field, can I still choose option 2 when playing this follower’s Fanfare ability and have nothing happen?

A: Yes. In that case, since you can’t select a suitable target, you can’t play the ability, so nothing happens. You aren’t obligated to choose option 1.

After

Q: When playing this follower’s Fanfare ability, if I can’t select an enemy follower that costs 1 play point on the field, can I still choose option 2 to have nothing happen?

A: No. If you can’t select an enemy follower, you would be required to choose option 1.

Example #2

Amelia, Silver Paladin

Q: When playing this follower’s Fanfare ability, if I can’t select an enemy follower on the field, can I still choose option 2 to have nothing happen?

A: No. If you can't select an enemy follower, you would be required to choose option 1. Likewise, if you can't select a follower that costs 3 play points or less in your hand, you would be required to choose option 2. However, if you can't select a suitable target for either option, then you can't play this follower's Fanfare ability and nothing would happen.
